Lead Packaging Machine
Operator

 


The Position

Lead, train and support Packaging Machine Operators (PMO) on the daily operation of designated packaging machines to attain productivity goals (e.g., schedule attainment) and quality standards while maintaining a safe operation. Execution of schedule attainment in the packaging area and assigned lines.

DESCRIPTION OF PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Attain productivity goals (e.g., schedule attainment)

  • Perform PMO daily rounds

  • Participate in and/or verify start up meetings are being performed

  • Participate in and/or verify new product run meetings are being performed

  • Verify and participate in line procedures/line operations, bag size changes and cleans

  • Accurately issue material to jobs and de-issue material back to stock to ensure inventory accuracy

  • Complete / verify required paperwork including start up form, BOM, work orders, CCP checks, and clean checklists

  • Verify paperwork and checks are being done correctly according to standard operating procedures

  • 5S packaging lead workstation

  • Follow 5S layout for staging of case labels & product specification chart at leads workstations

  • Communicate to PMOs daily schedule

  • Perform daily Staging activities to support packaging runs

  • Timely staff PMOs to line to support schedule

  • Support and understand line worker tasks and responsibilities

  • Review PMOs’ and Line Workers’ vacation requests before giving to Production Manager/Supervisor.

  • Delegate rolls/tasks and responsibilities to PMOs and Line Workers.

  • Oversee PMO and Line Worker personnel matters to promote team building.

  • Throughout shift, support PMOs in overcoming obstacles to attainment of productivity goals.

  • Maintains good communication with employees on all levels; communicates problems and applicable situations to Shift Managers, Processing, and Packaging Supervisors/Manager.

  • Train PMOs on effective operation of each line, to include monitoring of effective performance, assessing quality, or detecting mechanical malfunctions.

  • Stage jobs in a timely manner to ensure shift start-up and shift-transition attainment is achieved.

  • Communicate problems and issues to next shift lead.

  • Ensure PMOs publish problems and issues to next shift PMOs.

  • Checks accuracy of work orders and enters information on the daily recap.

MISCELLANEOUS/OTHER:

  • Ensure Organic and Allergen Control Program compliance through proper inventory control and operational practices.

  • Evaluate and improve upon existing processes

  • Identifies and resolves problems in a timely manner.

  • Immediately notifies QC, and Supervisor of any product or packaging issues including foreign material presence.

  • Promotes teamwork within the department, and interdepartmental teamwork.

  • Can demonstrate on-hand knowledge of packaging equipment/machines.

  • Demonstrates effective decision making in a fast-paced environment.

  • Monitor and train employees to promote and maintain safe work environment and comply with safety policies, procedures, and rules taking corrective action as needed.

  • Perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with our values of Integrity, Goodwill and Results.

  • Maintains confidentiality with all Food Sense Foods information and procedures.

  • Train PMOs on general leadership issues involving PMOs’ leadership of Line Workers.

  • Performs any other duties requested by the Shift Manager or Supervisor.

  • Educates and performs all tasks using proper GMP's and safety procedures (such as safety belts, ear plugs, goggles, and all personal protective equipment). Makes sure all packaging personnel are doing the same.

  • Promote a safe and organized work place

  • Must be able to stand/walk for entire shift, ability to lift 50 pounds, ability to push/pull fully loaded pallet jacks.

QUALIFICATIONS:

***Essential

  • Able to effectively speak, read, and write English.

  • High School Graduate or GED

  • Good communication and teaching skills

  • Good organizational skills

  • Good basic math aptitude and ability to use scales and calculators.

  • Above average mechanical aptitude

  • Be able to lift up to 50 lbs.

  • Attention to detail and accuracy

  • Good sense of teamwork and urgency

  • Experience in packaging environment operating various food packaging machines.

  • Basic computer skills

Bilingual English/Spanish or English /Hmong

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Typical manufacturing facility, potential exposure to loud noises, moving equipment, potential exposure to chemicals, dust, some areas in the facility may be hot, or cold.
