Warehouse and Distribution Manager

THE POSITION:
The Warehouse and Distribution Manager is responsible for coordinating the efficient movement of finished goods from the manufacturing area to the warehouse area, and the warehouse to retail customers. Manager is responsible for inventory control, supply chain workflow, logistics strategy and oversight, designing and executing process flows, and leading warehouse staff.
PRIMARY DUTIES:
Inventory Management
Oversees the management and control of inventory and inventory flow
Supports S&OP process to maintain adequate stock levels to meet sales forecasts, and reassesses levels to accommodate sales cycles
Proactively manages inventory accuracy with consistent, regular cycle counts and damaged product reports
Ensures compliance by following procedures and with maintaining appropriate records for moving product and labeling finished goods cases per customer requirements
Warehouse Organization
Develop and implement an efficient picking, packing, and dispatch process within stated timeframes
Ensures that all parties along the supply chain are prepared to ship and receive their materials at the appointed date and time
Establishes optimal use of existing pallet racking and provides recommendations for layout improvement
Establishes contingency plans based on likely changes and the best information possible in forecasting obstacles but is always prepared to adjust if conditions shift
Implements and revises warehouse management procedures for all aspects of the warehouse
Establish KPI’s and manage team to meet metrics, providing appropriate reporting around KPI’s
Track relevant KPI’s and metrics with focus on identifying efficiencies
Freight
Responsible for developing an effective freight strategy, evaluating freight rates and services of multiple freight partners to provide optimal transportation solutions
Manage inbound and outbound shipments both domestic and international
Plan, negotiate costs, execute and track activity in company transportation system
Track and approve all freight costs and invoices
Analyzes logistical problems and provides and/or recommends solutions
Coordinates with carriers for the shipping of materials and goods, including understanding the carrier’s capabilities
Audit all origin and destination demurrage and detention claims. Take the lead to investigate and acquire all necessary information to recommend solutions
Ensures customers are invoiced timely and accurately for delivery services by coordinating with finance department
Production Planning
Supports Manufacturing Scheduler with Sales & Operational Planning requirements for on-going sales, large customer orders, as well as special projects
Assists the Finance Department with managing inventory and cash management
Customer Service
Provides excellent customer service by ensuring order accuracy and timely delivery and communicating with Customer Service regularly, including any out-of-stock issues
Focus on long-term strategic sourcing and relationship management with customers, service providers and suppliers
Leadership
Leads a team of full and part-time employees
Forecasts ongoing staffing needs and establishes staffing plan for growth
Ensures staff members are trained and following procedures
Maintains a high level of safety and housekeeping awareness in the general warehouse environment
Communicates quarterly priorities and enjoys managing a team of people
Other Duties
Maintains a thorough knowledge of GMP processes with regards to food grade products and ensures food safety during transportation
Documents current procedures and reviews and adjusts for continuous improvement
Prepares reports and monitors progress by establishing metrics and providing a daily verbal report and weekly documented report
Able to resolve problems quickly by not short cutting procedures
Willing to understand and be involved with all levels of the business by participating in high level warehouse management to low skill and repetitive work
Participates in annual and quarterly planning process and executes plans
Other duties as assigned
SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS
Essential
5+ years warehouse and distribution management experience, preferably in a manufacturing/CPG setting
Bachelor’s degree in an area focused on developing highly analytical skills and/or business principles
Ability to analyze data for managing inventory levels and processes
Ability to communicate well with internal and external customers
Ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines in a high energy, fast paced environment
Ability to develop and follow processes
Ability to problem solve quickly and with confidence
Satisfaction in seeing and fixing errors with a focus on doing things right the first time
Preferred
Solid understanding of inventory management
Familiarity with Microsoft Office, general ERP systems, and warehouse management systems
Forklift skills
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sit for extended periods of time, ability to type, talk and communicate visual ability to use a computer and calculator, move around facility, occasional lifting and bending.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Typical office working conditions, inside, typical non climate controlled warehouse conditions.
